SLU Cycle Officially Back on the Bikes

With the start of Phase 2 commencing at the turn of September, more opportunities are popping up for students to get back into their exercise routines. The Stafford Fitness Center is currently accepting 12 individuals each hour, a 2 person increase from the previous phase, and the varsity weight room capacity was pushed up to 10. Varsity sports are slowly starting to return to pod practices and there is a sense of liveliness and normalcy around the athletic complex, something students and student-athletes alike have been missing.

One of the revamped activities for students are the weekly spin classes offered by Tyler Sherwin ‘22, as well as a few offered by Ironman athlete and Assistant Men’s Lacrosse Coach, RJ Ehli. Anyone in the immediate St. Lawrence community can sign up online via St. Lawrence’s WaitWhile page. Classes take place in the multipurpose room in the morning and afternoons.

Sherwin, the creator of SLU Cycle; a spin class for St. Lawrence students, has been thrilled to get back onto the bikes. Her mission in starting SLU Cycle last year was to offer people a fun way to get a workout in. As a college student herself, she recognized first hand how difficult it can be to get motivated, so her spin classes are all about getting people to be excited about moving.

The junior from Vermont, spoke to the difficulties she faced when the fitness classes were put on the back burner due to COVID-19. “I did not think when coming back to school I would be able to run SLU Cycle due to COVID-19 regulations. However, with contact tracing, online sign ups, socially distant bikes and masks on, we have now been able to make it work.” Sherwin said. The combination of past spinners and new faces has given her the support to continue classes amidst this hectic time. “Every class has brought positive energy and smiling (eyes) making everyone’s day a little better and bringing back some normalcy.” she stated. Grateful to be able to continue SLU Cycle this semester, Tyler encourages everyone, whether a seasoned pro or a beginner to sign up for a class and give yourself a chance to enjoy exercising. Class times will be listed on WaitWhile as well as SLU Cycle’s Instagram page.
