Two Friends Provide a Glimpse of Normal

0

Picture this…It’s 2019-2020 at SLU. You put on your mud-stained shoes and grab your going-out coat and head out to the townhouses with friends. Although you’re not always sure which house you’ll end up in and who you’ll see along the way, there is one thing that is certain: you will hear a Two Friends Big Bootie Mix in a townhouse at some point that night (and if you don’t, you better throw someone else on aux).

You walk into the townhouse and are instantly surrounded by the smells of cigarettes on patios, beer-stained carpets, and an overwhelming amount of Axe Body Spray. Everyone is dancing, singing (more like screaming), and having a good time (except for that one person you spot crying every night out). But no matter how the night is going, when Two Friend’s Big Bootie Mix #17 comes on and drops to “2 Bangs, 3 Adderall, 1 Braincell, WHAT THE F***!!!” you will scream and shout and let it all out (throwback to Black Eyed Peas). And if you don’t, are you even a SLUzer???

Well, we all know that 2020 has been a pretty crappy year and far from normal, but to make it a little better, Two Friends just released their latest mash-up—Big Bootie Mix #18—on Saturday, October 17th. In a previous article of mine, Music to My Ears, I spoke about how artists have adapted during the pandemic and how many have shifted to live virtual concerts. That’s precisely what Two Friends did. For just $11, a fraction of the price of a real concert ticket, you could secure your seat at the virtual concert. For $35, you could even get a virtual meet-and-greet with Two Friends before the concert. Fifteen minutes before showtime, they would email you a link to allow you to join and live stream their set. You would be the first people to hear the new Big Bootie Mix (which still hasn’t officially dropped yet).

Being the music aficionado that I am, of course I bought tickets. LET ME TELL YOU—BBM #18 might just be their best work yet. The song choice—incredible. The sampled quotes and audio—superb. The bass drops could have hit a little harder, BUT I DON’T CARE. As college students, we were in dire need of a new BBM, and Two Friends DELIVERED!

I can’t wait until this pandemic is over, and we can get back to overcrowded, stinky, and sweaty townhouses where we can destroy speakers to the beautiful sounds of Big Bootie Mixes. Until then, there’s nothing wrong with putting on a pair of headphones and getting turnt to BBMs by yourself or connecting to a speaker and having fun with your extended family unit. In the words of Two Friends in the outro of BBM #18, “Mr. Big Bootie Man has returned to save the day, and we are forever grateful for him,” and don’t forget to follow me on Spotify @ndturtledove. Until next time Peace Gesture
