SLU Hockey Legends Weekend

0

Next weekend, from Nov. 4-5, is Legends Weekend at Apple- ton Arena. Considering the importance of hockey to St. Lawrence University, both in the past, present, and future; this weekend is a big deal. The inductee of a record breaker, record maker, and arguably the best coach in our school’s history is no small matter. Furthermore, it is no small matter for both the men’s and women’s hockey teams themselves. Although, let’s go deeper into who is the inductee to the St. Lawrence Hockey Hall of Fame, and why it is such an important weekend to the school. Joe Marsh came to St. Lawrence University in 1985 and coached the Men’s hockey program until the end of the 2011- 2012 season. In his time at SLU, Joe has a 482-418-75 record and

led the program to two regular season championships, five conference championship titles, and eight conference and NCAA Tournament appearances. He is the school’s most successful coach in the program’s history of those who have been tenured.

Marsh has left a legacy with both the Men’s and Women’s hockey programs that no other coach could match, showing good work ethics and hockey skills that made him the coach he was.

Even after retiring in 2012, due to some health is- sues, he came back as a volunteer assistant coach to his former protégé in current Women’s head coach, Chris Wells. Marsh is a wonderful person, a real character and if you’re ever lucky enough to hear Marsh on the bench, which can be easy to hear sometimes, or hear some of his numerous stories, it will leave you laughing and with a big smile on your face.
