ALCS five times, this makes them the first team to lose five straight League Championship series over a particular period of time according to ESPN Stats and Info.
What’s even more profound is in that same time period the Yankees won 4 divisional championships, surpassed or hit the 100-win mark for the regular season twice, and this year Aaron Judge hit the AL single season homerun record with a groundbreaking 62.
Furthermore, this season is the fourth time since 2015 that the Yankees have been eliminated from the postseason by the Astros. Also, the Yankees have now been elimiated by the Atros more than any other team in the history of their franchise. Even with all this glory and success, the Yankees over the past 13 years can just not seem to put it together when it comes time for big time baseball.
With that in mind, the Yankees were playing without arguably their two best contact hitters, DJ LeMahieu and Andrew Benintendi. Both have been out with injuries for the vast majority of the late season.
Still even with that, that can’t be an excuse for the season that they’ve had. Now with the offseason approaching, it is now the time for the Yankees to hopefully change something.
On the minds of everyone is the potential of Aaron Judge not resigning with the team. And while there has been some people on both sides of if the Yankees should put a concerted effort into retaining him, what you can’t deny is the legendary season that he had this year. If he can just figure out how to better himself and his playing in the playoffs then this will make him all the more desirable.
The only issue is he is looking for quite the sum of money. Even for the Yankees, one of the most wealthy franchises, what he is asking is out of their range in terms of resigning him. Many Yankees fans are absolutely hoping that the Yankees make the choice to resign him, but at the end of the day, they are not the ones who make the decision and only time will tell if what they do or lack thereof of what they do, will pay off come next season.
