MLB Super-Teams

0

Well, the MLB has seemingly taken a page out of the NBA’s book of tricks. A new era of baseball has dawned. In the past we’ve seen the eras of players showing up hungover to games while smoking cigars, the steroid era, the record-breaking contract era and now this one: the super-team era.

Bryce Harper revoked his 13-year $330 million contract with the Phillies and Manny Machado his 10-year $300 million contract with the Padres to form their own super-team. Just after Mike Trout signed his 12-year extension with the Angels, he too was recruited by Harper and Machado to join their club. Word on the street says the three are trying to recruit Chris Sale before he signs his extension with the Red Sox and free agent Dallas Keuchel. Obviously, the first problem is that they only have five players.

Although we have reports saying the squad is inspired by former Major League and Negro League pitching legend Satchel Paige who told his team to remain on the bench as he proceeded to retire all three batters he faced while being the only defender on the field, his catcher notwithstanding. The super-team will have a pitcher, while the other pitcher catches.

Machado will be the lone infielder, with Trout roaming left-center and Harper in right-center.

I guess the players became frustrated with all of the rumors and gossip and pressure to sign with a team, so they formed their own to silence the naysayers. This has come to be quite a shock to the baseball world—good luck to them!
