When did you start playing field hockey? What about golf?

I remember the first time I picked up a stick. It was PE class in second grade and I immediately loved it. I joined a club team shortly after that and just kept going with it. I was a field player from 2nd-8th grade. In 7th grade I was both because we needed a goalie for our middle school team and I was a soccer goalie back in the day and I just fell in love.

Golf was a little bit different. My first time playing I think I was 6. Our parents signed us up for the Junior golf league at our club and I played every Friday during the summer until I was roughly 14. After that I would golf with my family and then as time went on I would play with my friends and the more I played the more I liked it.

Why St. Lawrence to continue your athletic career?

My dad actually played hockey here back in the late 80’s and early 90’s and loved it. I had always had a St. Lawrence hockey flag in my room since I was a baby and my dad always wore his SLU gear, so when I decided I wanted to play college field hockey SLU was always on my list. At first I didn’t give it too much attention since I didn’t know a lot about the school but I remember when I did my overnight visit I just fell in love with the campus and especially the team. I felt so at home and it was most definitely the best decision I could have made.

What’s the hardest part about being a goalie?

Being a goalie is a huge mental game. You have one main job and it’s to stop the ball, but the odds are kind of against you so you really have to be mentally dialed in to be able to do the job well.

What has been your favorite moment from your field hockey career?

My favorite would have to be the penalty stroke save I made in the win against William Smith my sophomore year. There was like 3.5 minutes left and we were up by one and they got a penalty shot and I made a stick save to stop it and it was just crazy. My parents were in town for that game too so for them to be able to see it live really meant a lot to me.

Your hometown is St. Louis, what’s your favorite restaurant from there?

I LOVE THE 314! There are so many good restaurants there but my favorite would have to be Bricktops in Frontenac. They have a variety of food from sushi to an amazing French dip to steak and they even have their famous skillet cookie with a scoop of ice cream on top. It’s such a fun place and I always run into people I know there which is always a good time.

What is your ideal job after you graduate this year?

The dream right now is to work in the NHL! Hockey has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember and I’ve really developed an interest for sports marketing. I would really want to do marketing and corporate partnerships for a team, so definitely staying on the business side of the game, but still being involved with sports which has always been a passion of mine.
