How long have you been diving for?
I have been diving for 8 years.
What inspired you to join the team here at SLU?
I was recruited and the team atmosphere was bomb on my recruiting trip.
What is your favorite memory of being on the swim team at SLU?
My favorite memory of being on the swim team at SLU was being Liberty League Diver of the Week. Training trip was cool too.
Did you play any other sports before committing to diving?
As a kid I played most sports. In high school, I played lacrosse and ran cross country as but by my junior year it became clear to me that my particular athletic prowess was best suited by diving.
Who is your biggest fan (why)?
My coach Trevor Herzog is my biggest fan. He is always amazed and enthralled by everything I am able to do on the board.
How do you feel diving is different from other sports on campus?
You wear a speedo. It’s a sport that revolves around jumping and falling. It’s an adrenaline junkie sport although I’ll be honest I’m pretty scared of most of the things I have to do.
Do you have any superstitious pre-meet rituals?
I shake my arms to dry them off. I’ll even shake them if I’m totally dry. Usually if it’s a big dive I’ll take a deep breath and then begin my approach. I’m also a fan of rocking at the edge of the board longer than most people would be comfortable with.
Do you have any big plans for this semester – bucket list fulfillments, etc?
I definitely need to ski Whiteface. Pretty embarrassed I haven’t done that yet. I want to spend some more time in Ottawa. I guess overall, just go on more adventures and make the most of the rest of my time here.
What is your favorite thing to order from the pub?
The Sausage Egg O’Larry on an everything bagel with spinach, tomato and a hash brown. Usually a healthy squirt of chipotle Tabasco to go along with it.
Do you have any advice for student athletes?
Practice gets mundane and at some point you’ll be asking yourself what the hell the point of it all is but having a cheering squad of friends parents and even professors at your last meet makes it kinda worth it. Also just try to have fun because making it through four years is a rewarding feeling.
