The Saints Golf Team has been on a hot streak since returning from summer break. Strong performances from many team members have set the tone for the 2019-20 Saints squad. Low scores have been posted consistently this entire fall season, with some golfers breaking their own personal bests.

Will Wilson ‘22 is a standout sophomore on the squad, recently shooting a 140 on the weekend at the St. Lawrence Invitational. This was the top individual score out of a field of 59 golfers. He is greatly looking forward to this weekend’s Williams Invitational at Williams College.

The Saints have a great opportunity to continue their successes in the big match this weekend. Stiff competition will be there but Will Wilson ‘22, is confident the Saints have a good shot. “If everyone plays well, there is no reason we can’t win,” said Wilson. Winning at Williams would be a big statement for the Saints, as it would put them much higher in the national rankings.

This optimism does not only live at the top of the ladder. There are currently 19 players on the roster, with many players on the younger side. Freshman sensation Peyton Knauf has established himself as one of the top players on the team. He should only improve as the years go by. Sophomores Eric Sarier, Bryan McLennan, and Max Hagan have all improved over the summer and look to impose their will on the course this fall.

The class of 2022 is well represented on the roster. 8 players from the sophomore class are improving rapidly, with a goal of a national championship in sight. Max Hagan ‘22 believes his class has the potential for something special. “All of the team is committed to excellence. We want to put the Saints on the national stage. I have every hope that we can become an elite program in the very near future,” said Max.

The Saints Golf program is one with a bright future. The young players that are winning now will only continue to support a winning culture at St. Lawrence. Big things are in the works for the Saints. Let’s hope that as the temperature falls, the scores do the same.
