Sydney is the goalie for the Saints Field Hockey team.

How has this years team been different from the last? This year’s team is extremely young compared to last year. We graduated 7 seniors and added 9 first years. But the team is still pretty close knit. We’ve had to work on our style of play and connectivity, but that always comes with younger players.

Is your record a real representation of the kind of team you guys are? Absolutely not. Our statistics show the kind of team we are way more. This is a good group of girls with a beautiful passing game. Our offense is good at creating plays and getting shots off. Our defense has good communication and game knowledge. We just have some small aspects of our game that need some cleaning up.

Is there a particular team you guys don’t like? Or want to beat extra bad? Our number one rival is Skidmore for sure. After that another huge rivalry is William Smith, with Ithaca and Union, and Vassar being close ones as well. But the top two are Skid and WS.

How has the team chemistry been this year? Once the freshmen got comfortable, our team became really close. We’re involved in a lot of stuff together off the field, so we are all really close in a lot of aspects.

Where do you see the season going the rest of the year? That’s the beautiful thing about field hockey. You never know how any game is going to go. This year has been strange with the outcomes with all the teams in our league, so after these next two weeks, depending on how our games go, we really could be anywhere in the standings.

How has the competition been so far this year? The competition has been really good this year. A lot of our games have been pretty neck and neck. Lots of intensity and really good field hockey.

Any standout studs on the squad? One of our first years, McKenzie Haberl is our leading goal scorer. She can move the ball and create plays beautifully and dangle on goalies. She’s done it to me a couple of times in practice and you can do nothing but laugh cause there’s sometimes just nothing you can even do.
