Is Josh Allen the NFL MVP So Far?

0

When the Buffalo Bills selected Josh Allen 7th overall in the 2018 NFL Draft, they received a large amount of criticism from their fans and the national media. Many people thought that the big, strong-armed, and athletic quarterback had the makings of yet another typical QB bust. After the start of his 2020 NFL campaign, nobody is doubting what the Bills saw in the University of Wyoming quarterback.

Through the first four games of the season, Allen has thrown for 1,326 yards (2nd), 12 touchdown passes (2nd), one interception, and sports a quarterback rating of 87.1 (3rd). Josh has also added three touchdowns rushing, yet another strong element of his game. Compared to years past, the Bills offense has been airing it out all season. Good offensive line protection and a group of great receivers led by Stefon Diggs, John Brown, Cole Beasley, and Gabriel Davis have aided Allen in his junior year breakout. Josh has certainly proven his doubters wrong on his waning accuracy and consistency issues throwing the ball effectively in his past.

Allen has progressed every year in this aspect throughout his career, but this season he has truly taken off to a whole new tier of quarterback play. He has shown great comfort in 3rd year offensive coordinator Brian Daboll’s playbook and is showing traits of being a tremendous team leader as well. In terms of fantasy football, Allen has been a top three quarterback, as he has been the touchdown machine that predicates the vast majority of the Bills offensive success. Trading for Stefon Diggs, who is currently tied-1st in receiving yardage, from the Minnesota Vikings has elevated Allen’s game, as well as the swagger on the entire offensive side of the ball.

Despite his impressive efforts so far, Josh is facing stiff competition this year for the MVP award including Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russel Wilson and Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers. Right now, Russell Wilson leads the conversation followed by Allen and Rodgers. All teams are currently undefeated, and Wilson has had the best start to a season in his incredible career. Rodgers has been putting up MVP numbers despite working with an injury-plagued offensive supporting cast. Other possible candidates include quarterbacks Cam Newton, Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes.

Allen and the Bills will look to keep winning after starting 4-0 for the first time since 2008. His style of play is electrifying to watch no matter what team you root for. There is nothing Josh Allen can’t do on a football field as he is adored by Bills fans everywhere. The Bills face off against the Tennessee Titans away, and then have a Thursday night showdown with the Chiefs in Week 6.
