Buffalo Bills vs. Los Angeles Rams Thursday Night Football Recap

1

The Buffalo Bills traveled into the defending Super Bowls Champs stadium and proved everything we thought coming into the game – maybe even more. The 2023 Super Bowl favorite Buffalo Bills defeated the Los Angeles Rams 31-10 on September 8th during opening night making a statement to the rest of the NFL.

The first half of the game was relatively even as the Rams jogged into halftime 10-10 after kicking a 57-yard field goal. The first touchdown of the NFL season was a Gabriel Davis 26-yard touchdown from Josh Allen 9:56 into the first quarter. Cooper Kupp caught a highlight-reel toe-tap touchdown in the first half and finished the game with 13 receptions for 128 yards including that endzone grab.

In the second half, the Buffalo Bills got off to a great start by scoring 21 unanswered points sporting a balanced offense and dominant performance from their defensive line. Former Los Angeles Ram Von Miller, who signed with the Bills this offseason recorded two sacks! The addition of Miller is crucial on and off the field for the Bills, but it was also great to see Ed Oliver, Gregory Rosseau, and Boogie Basham contribute as well. In total, the Bills recorded seven sacks on defense making it difficult for LA to execute anything on their offensive game plan. It was great to see Buffalo’s defense be so disruptive and create three interceptions considering All-Pro Tre’Davious White is still recovering from a torn ACL. His return is likely around week five or six.

Most impressive for the Buffalo Bills… none other than Josh Allen. What a phenomenal performance from the MVP favorite in a hostile environment under the bright opening lights. His complete toolbox of abilities was firing as he was making plays in and out of the pocket, and with his feet. Allen amassed 297 passing yards, three passing touchdowns, 56 rushing yards, and a rushing touchdown. The league’s most physical and best dual-threat quarterback has the ability to carry this team into the Super Bowl if he continues this excellent play.

Josh Allen, in a post-game interview with Scott Van Pelt of ESPN, said that “we got a W. That’s all we wanted to do. Everything that we do throughout the week, and really throughout training camp, was for this first game…to put ourselves in the best position possible heading into week two vs Tennessee.”

The Bills will look to keep their momentum going as they host the Tennessee Titans in week two for Monday Night Football on September 19th.
