Men’s Basketball Preview

0

Going into this up and coming 2018-2019 basketball season here at St. Lawrence University the team is looking very promising. The incoming first-years: Cale, Ade, Bruce, Will, Luke, and Jordan all bring something unique and positive to the team. All of them come from good basketball backgrounds as well from high-level competition high school basketball programs.

This pre-season has been very productive for the team because every member of the team has spent a significant amount of time in the gym getting up extra shot repetitions and working on their skills. Another reason why this season is very promising is because we have everyone back healthy that was injured in the 2017-2018 season. This will add more depth to our team. This being said, we have only lost one player from last year’s team, however, everyone else from last year’s team is returning, which is why I anticipate that we will have great continuity when we first take the court at SUNY Potsdam on November 13.

This whole pre-season playing pickup with the team we have a lot of talent as individuals and once we begin to practice as a team and combine all of the talent from every individual member of the team then I think we can be dangerous. I also see a good balance on our team of young, hungry players and older, more experienced players which will allow the younger players to develop into better basketball players by learning from not just their own experiences playing college basketball for the first time, but also observing the older players and how they go about their business as a college basketball player.

Our goal as a team is to win the Liberty League Tournament and get to the NCAA Tournament. In my opinion, I think that this year’s team has the potential to be better than the 20-7 St. Lawrence team in 2016-2017 that went to the NCAA Tournament. I say this because this team has more size and athleticism then the 2016-2017 team did. I also think that we have the potential to surpass the 2016-2017 team because we will be motivated to have more success than them and make it farther in the NCAA Tournament than them. All in all, there is great potential in our young but experienced squad and I think that we will be a force to be reckoned with in the future.
