What’s the deal w/ Plan B?

0

This first time I took Plan B, I was 17 years old. He was older than me, the condom broke, and I was scared. I was using oral contraceptives, but sometimes I missed doses and needed reassurance that I wouldn’t get pregnant. After a quick Google search to see what my options were, I decided on taking Plan B. My friends drove me to the local pharmacy, and I washed down the small pill with a large Arizona iced tea. It was that easy!

Accidents happen and the Dub is here to help! Ever had questions about Plan B emergency contraceptive? To all of those uterus havers (and their partners), this week’s Dear Dub is here to give you the run down on some frequently asked questions surrounding Plan B and how to get it on our campus. As a reminder, The Dub offers Walgreens gift cards to cover the cost of Plan B for all students, here are some frequently asked questions we get about Plan B:

Do I need to take Plan B? Plan B is an emergency contraceptive used to reduce the risk of pregnancy after unprotected sex. Unprotected sex may include not using a condom, condom breaking, or missing a birth control dose.

Is Plan B an abortion pill? Plan B is not an abortion pill and will not be effective if you are already pregnant.

How long do I have to take it? Plan B works within 72 hours of having unprotected sex, but the sooner you take it the better.

Will I have any side effects? The most common side effects include temporary nausea, dizziness, and cramping.

Does Plan B protect me from sexually transmitted diseases or infections? No. Plan B only works as an emergency contraceptive and does not protect you from sexually transmitted diseases or infections. The Dub has free condoms, internal condoms, and dental dams which are more effective in preventing STIs. Stop by our house to stock up.

Will taking Plan B affect my chances of getting pregnant in the future? Plan B does not affect your fertility or your ability to get pregnant in the future regardless of how many times you take it. It is important to note that Plan B is an emergency contraceptive and should not be used as a primary form of birth control.

How to get it? If you or someone you know if in need of Plan B, please reach out to a Dubber via our Instagram DM’s (@SLUDub) or send us a text.
