ODK’s New Tapping Announcements Limit Embarrassment

0

Unless you live under a rock or don’t go to class, you’ve probably seen people walking into class, calling people up, and announcing what ODK does, saying, “congratulations x, you’ve made it in!” They announce when the tapping is and then leave triumphantly.

However, some people have taken issue with ODK’s current system. Some, for example, find it to be a disruption. “How can we learn if people come in to stop learning to celebrate someone else learning? It doesn’t make sense,” says a member of the Class of 2020. Still, others express pangs of embarrassment for those who apply for ODK, get rejected, and have to sit there while their classmate get chosen and inducted in front of the whole class.

But, don’t worry everyone, because ODK has heard your complaints, and they now have a solution.

Starting immediately, the ODK patrol will follow their next inductee and wait until they’ve left the company of others before tapping them.

“Ideally, we think that if we catch them in the bathroom, showering, getting dressed in the morning, getting changed for practice, or driving out to get something, we can really tamp down the embarrassment and focus on what’s really important: the scholastic achievements of these students, combined with their stellar out-of-class achievements and all the activities and clubs they’re a part of,” says a member of the ODK board, who gave the go-ahead for this endeavor. “Besides, who wouldn’t want to be getting coffee in the morning and finding out on the highway from two other high achievers like themselves that they’ve been inducted? That seems like a dream come true!”

“We’ve had some success so far; people seem more likely to accept the award without hesitation now. In fact, they seem to want the ribbons and information faster than we can give it to them! Of course, we have to follow the script. Can’t break any rules, now can we?” said that same board member.

Of course, there are some drawbacks the board considered. Another member of the board, a graduating senior, voiced concerns about minimizing potential embarrassment. What if someone else was in the bathroom at the same time? What if they brought a friend to get coffee or alcohol?

“Unfortunately, there’s not much we can do to minimize these kind of potential causes of embarrassment, and we have to make do with what we can and take the best chance that we can to not embarrass people,” said a graduating senior on the board.

“We have a lot of optimism about this new approach, and we’re really excited for the positive effect this will have on the entire campus community!” said the senior.

ODK tapping will, along with other prestigious academic achievement events, take place on Moving Up Day.
