Meet The Hill News Editorial Board

Gabrielle Aldrich ’24 is the editor-in-chief of The Hill News from Fredonia, New York. She is double majoring in sociology and economics with a minor in creative writing. Gabrielle started as a copy editor in her sophomore year after taking Intro to Journalism and eventually became chief copy editor and the arts & entertainment section editor. This school year, she is looking forward to connecting the publication to campus life, encompassing both the new and the familiar. When Gabrielle is not tucked away in the student media office, you can find her in the Habitat for Humanity theme house, where she is club president and an enthusiastic woodcarver. Around campus, you can spot Gabrielle on a walk or with a cup of coffee in hand, patiently awaiting the next issue of The Hill News. 

Zach Jaworski ’25 is a managing editor for The Hill News from the small town of North Collins, New York. He is majoring in Psychology with minors in German Studies, Government and Performance & Communication Arts. Zach first became involved with THN as a writer for the opinions and sports sections before becoming features editor in the fall and managing editor in the spring of his sophomore year. He is also involved in two other SLU publications, The Underground and The Laurentian Magazine. Besides publications, he is a member of the Men’s Track and Field Team and is a community assistant for first-year students. Zach hopes to help provide SLU students with an objective, relevant and unique source of information. In his free time, he can be found pondering life in the beautiful Adirondack Park. 

Alden Timm ’25 is the photo editor of The Hill News. Having grown up in Maine, he is accustomed to the cold weather of the North Country. Alden has been taking photos on a competitive and professional level for six years and strives to capture the realness of this campus in his work. He is an English and Digital Media and Film major who dabbles in music. When he’s not on campus taking photos, Alden is in the outdoors leading trips for St. Lawrence’s Outing Club. 

Emma Kahle ’26 is the chief digital editor for The Hill News. She is from Wilton, Connecticut, and attended Deerfield Academy, a small boarding school in Western Massachusetts. Emma is an English major on the creative writing side and plans to double major in Digital Media and Film. She joined The Hill News last spring as a digital editor after taking an Intro to Journalism class in the fall. Emma is also a member of the Women’s Lacrosse Team on campus. When not playing lacrosse or doing her homework, Emma enjoys spending time with friends, writing and playing the guitar! 

Brooke Martindale ’26 is a digital editor for The Hill News. She attended Hall High School in West Hartford, Connecticut. Brooke is undeclared but plans to major in psychology. She joined The Hill News on staff as an editor this fall. She is a member of the saints field hockey team and is working as a community assistant in an upperclassmen community on campus. 

Maya Mackey ’24 is a local to the North Country, and she grew up in Brushton, New York. Maya is double majoring in digital media and film and performance and communication arts. Maya interned at North Country Public Radio this summer, where she produced audio news stories on several different topics, including profiles on local businesses, the return of agricultural education to North Country schools, Indigenous tradition and culture, and mental health awareness and resources for farmers in New York. Maya is currently the editor of the arts & entertainment section of The Hill News and continues to work in both a writing and editing capacity. Maya is the director of the Appleton Arena broadcast room, and she hopes to pursue a career in the field of broadcast media. 

Matt Serrano ’26 is a news editor for The Hill News. He is from Andover, Massachusetts. He attended Andover High School and is a current sophomore at St. Lawrence University. He is an environmental science major combined with biology. Matt is an avid runner and is on the Cross Country and Track & Field teams. He also enjoys playing the guitar and spending time outdoors. 

Erin Harty ’25 is a returning digital editor for The Hill News. She is a combined environmental studies and psychology major and plans to minor in creative writing and education. She lives in Bowdoinham, Maine, with her family, black lab and black cat. Erin is a part of the Humane Society Club, the Backcountry Squatters and the Women’s Club Lacrosse team here on campus. She is a guide for the Outing Program and is very passionate about spending time outdoors, whether that be skiing, hiking, or walking with friends on the Saddlemire trail. 

Suzy L’Hommedieu ’25 is a new member of The Hill News, joining the team as a digital editor! She is from Columbus, Ohio, and is working on her combined major in economics and environmental studies with minors in PCA and sports studies & exercise science. Suzy is a captain of the varsity field hockey team and a member of the women’s lacrosse team. She loves being outdoors and hanging out with friends, so you may see her around campus on long walks! 

Patrick Chase ’25 is returning as features editor of The Hill News, having been recruited in the spring of 2023. Originally from Queensbury, New York, he attended Queensbury High School. Pat is majoring in government with a minor in digital media, Pat spends his time as an intern for Nature Up North and Communications Chair for SLU Ducks Unlimited. When not in class, he can usually be found on top of a peak in the Adirondacks or hunting ducks by the St. Lawrence River. 

Poppy Hanson ’25 is the opinions editor for The Hill News. She is from Branford, Connecticut, and attended Hopkins School. She is majoring in government and business in the liberal arts and minoring in French. Poppy was a member of the Thelomathesian Society in her sophomore year, which is what brought on her interest in journalism and opinion editing. When Poppy isn’t speaking her mind and helping others do so, you could probably find her in the library studying or in the student center spending time with friends. She looks forward to helping more Saints share their stories and opinions this semester. 

Matthew Taylor ’25 is the editor of the sports section for The Hill News. He is from Rochester, New York, and is a government major. He is a captain of the Men’s Cross Country team. Matt enjoys watching and writing about sports, and when he isn’t running or working for The Hill News, you can often find Matt drinking coffee and hanging out with friends at Dana or the Student Center. 

Emily Siansky ’26 is a Managing Editor for The Hill News. This is her second semester in the role, and she is very excited to get back to work! Emily is a proud Marylander and loves the black-eyed susan flowers all around campus. She is a recently declared digital media and film major and plans to minor in communications and gender and sexuality studies. Emily is also a member of the softball team here at SLU and can always be seen laughing with her teammates. Outside of softball and The Hill News, you can probably find Emily with a caffeinated drink in hand in the Student Center with her friends. 

Quinn Meyer ’25 is one of the News section editors for The Hill News. He is a proud member and president of the Artist Guild on campus and loves hanging out with his fellow housemates. Quinn is majoring in government and francophone studies because he plans to overrun the French government. You will find him skipping on the quad and starting shenanigans. Want to know more about Quinn? Just knock on the Artist Guild’s door and beg for him to talk to you, but beware! It might come at a price. . .
