Cascade Inn Fundraises for Class of 2022 this Weekend

0

The Class of 2022 is using Family Weekend as an opportunity to raise some money for senior week activities. They are hosting a fundraiser at The Cascade Inn in downtown Canton, where seven percent of a customer’s meal will go to the cause.

If students and their families go to The Cascade, all they have to do is show their server the event flyer, or even a picture of the flyer.

The Sophomore Class Council decided on the Cascade Inn as the location for their fundraiser because of a close connection to the motel and restaurant. “One of our advisors works there and she had suggested it,” President Lauren Arthaud ’22 said.

The partnership also benefits the local business. “They are looking to attract more of a St. Lawrence crowd,” Frances Hubbard ’22 said. “So we thought this would be a good opportunity to help them out and also help us out.”

Arthaud found marketing to be one of the main challenges of organizing the event. “We struggled with that last year,” she said.

The class council has been sharing the event on social media. They also are putting up posters around campus and local businesses in both Potsdam and Canton.

In the past, the Class of 2022 has sold t-shirts and stickers.

The shirts were designed by Charlotte Childs, member of the class. “Those have been really popular,” Hubbard said. “I see people wearing them on campus all the time.”

The class council plans on continuing sticker sales this year.

The class council has grown since last year as well. “We also are planning more events for this year, because we have a larger group,” Hubbard said. “We are hoping to do more outreach for the class and get our name out there.”

The Sophomore Class Council also feels more organized this year. “We work better with each other now that we have a year of experience,” Elisa Sergi ’22 said.

All members of the council agree that it is important to support your class. “We’re all in this together,” Arthaud said. “We wanna really enjoy the last week before we all depart for our futures and this is all working for that.”

The Sophomore Class Council meets Tuesdays at 8 p.m. in room 336 in the Student Center.
