Hey there folks! Welcome to the Boot and Paddle, your lovely Hill News section dedicated to adventure, sharing the outdoors, and informing campus on OC endeavors. Whether you are a first year with loads of outdoor experience, or a senior who still hasn’t squeezed an OC trip into your schedule, the OC has something for you! We lead trips big and small in the North Country, Adirondacks, and far beyond. So far this year we have trekked to close by mountains Arab and Azure, mountain biked at Mt. Pisgah, and camped at Wolf Lake to name a few. Mark your calendars for Peak Weekend September 23-25. Peak Weekend is a long-standing tradition the Outing Club puts on. We collectively get SLU students to the summit of all 46 Adirondack High Peaks over one singular weekend! To find sign up information look out for an email and check the Instagram. Keep an eye out for Peak Weekend T-shirts in the student center.  

Looking back on memories from last year, spring break was a favorite for many. Last spring break we tripped to Oahu, Hawaii, the Chick Chocks in Canada, and many picturesque locations in-between. In the Chick Chocks students skied in the backcountry, earning their turns in deep powder. Myles Barrett ’24, an OC member reports “The Chic Chocs present an undeniable opportunity of western-esque skiing that is hard to come by on the east coast, a local told us that the area gets as much snow as British Columbia. The best part of the trip for me was the impromptu decision to skin Mont Saint Pierre for sunset over the St. Lawrence Bay, it was beautiful”.
