Campus Eateries: A Review of Millwheels

Millwheels is SLU’s newest take out option in the COVID-era. Tucked away in the back hallway of Dana, Millwheels is exclusively accessible through a side-door of Sykes. You’ll know it when you see it– right on the path outside sits a purple, polka-dotted (and quite cute) menu board. Mondays through Fridays, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., you can use your meal plan, CWA or cash to get some delicious, quick, and easy food. 

SLU students are always on the go, and Millwheels makes it easy to grab a meal as quickly as possible. It’s also open during peak lunch times at Dana and the Pub, which might get overwhelmed with people or online orders. I know Dana and the Pub can be stressful with the lingering thought of coronavirus, and Millwheels is a great and substantially less crowded substitute.  Millwheels is exciting, too. Alongside SLU classics like chicken and grape, it features menu items that have never been previously offered at a grab-and-go on campus. 

Are you a vegetarian? Try the Chickpea “Tuna” Salad Wrap. Served in a spinach wrap with cucumbers and fresh lettuce, the chickpea tuna hits every time. I also have the recipe, if anyone is interested (this is my go-to). 

Are you an omnivore? Try the Chopped Greek Salad with chicken. A perfect mixture of greens and protein, it’s bound to keep you energized through the day. They also offer tofu for any plant-based eaters on campus. 

Are you a devout carnivore? Millwheels offers a plethora of weekly wrap and sandwich specials stacked high with tasty meats and cheeses. This week, it’s “The Sicilian:” salami, mozzarella, peppers, romaine and tomato on a white ciabatta bun. 

The pinnacle of excitement at Millwheels, at least in my eyes, lies in the newest side option. Creamy and not too salty with just a touch of sweetness: the potato salad. 

When asked about Millwheels, Tristan, class of 2023, said, “The sandwich was great. Pretty good variety of food, and quick in-and-out.” Shepard, also class of 2023, thought that “the greek salad was pretty good.” Good, solid reviews. 

Every time I’ve gone to Millwheels so far, I’ve been the only person there. No lines, no waiting, great conversations with the two women working there, in-and-out. If you’re ever in a crunch for time, Millwheels should be your new campus spot.
