Performers That Would Make for a More Meme-Worthy Super Bowl Halftime Show

0

From the drunk shark that danced with Katy Perry in 2015, to the obnoxious tattoos of Adam Levine during last years performance, nothing generates buzz among the thirty-and-under crowd like the Super Bowl halftime show. This year’s selection was a bit of a disappointment for hardcore memers and those who root for disaster, as Jennifer Lopez and Shakira seem like a great choice for the latin-infused city of Miami. The two artists are sure to put on a great show which will excite TV viewers all over the country, which is fine, if that’s what you’re into.

However, people aren’t looking for a halftime show where everything goes right. They’re looking for one that will set the internet on fire and provide an endless string of memes and gifs to help them survive the miserable Monday after the game. For those who wish that those in charge made a less responsible decision regarding the show, cheer yourself up by daydreaming about these meme-worthy performers who should have been chosen:

Hologram Lil Nas X

No, he’s not dead, but the “Old Town Road” singer probably wouldn’t waste his time performing at the Super Bowl halftime show. The man gets a million views when he sneezes or goes to the bathroom, so he’s probably got better things to do than be in Miami on a school night.

The NFL could look into getting a hologram of him for the game, a gimmick that would surely keep everyone’s eyes glued to the TV, hoping for some kind of glitch. As for the memes, they would surely write themselves. Not for me, but the true artists on Instagram and Tik Tok would have a field day.

Jimmy Buffet

A convenient choice, as Buffet supposedly lives at a retirement community just down the road from the stadium. His songs would bring a calming presence to the concert, which would be sandwiched in between two halves of the most violent sport in America. Millennials would surely love to meme about an old man they’ve never heard of performing songs about laziness, and it would make them feel better about not being able to afford rent.

The problem with Buffet performing would be his stamina. At 72 years old, he might get tired during the performance and have to take a knee, which, for the NFL, is a big no-no.

That guy from the Bachelorette who played guitar

I mean, why not, right? At this point in the history of the internet, nothing is impossible, and my boy Jed, or Jason, or Jeremiah needs to regain his fame after being dumped on national television. It doesn’t even matter if he has any talent, because if that was a qualifier, half of The Black Eyed Peas wouldn’t have been allowed up there in 2011.

Ed Sheeran

After last years performance, no one could get Adam Levine’s tattooed torso out of their head. Imagine what the kids would do if Ed Sheeran popped his shirt off and revealed the technicolor mural that is his chest and stomach. If Adam Levine had the tattoos that launched a thousand memes, Ed Sheeran has the tattoos that will force the NFL to implement a strict shirt requirement.

At the end of the day J-Lo and Shakira were the right choice, one that will surely get viewers to tune in. For those looking for a viral moment, I’m sure a background dancer will trip, or a firework will go off when it’s not supposed to.
