HBO’s “House of the Dragon” is known for its unique and quirky show promotion tactics. One of the most recent promotion tactics involved a takeover of the HBO network’s TikTok account by the “House of the Dragon” cast members. Emma D’Arcy (Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen) and Olivia Cooke (Alicent Hightower) both took to TikTok to answer fans’ burning questions. Cooke asked a question that led to a viral frenzy, “What’s your drink of choice?”

D’Arcy answered in a sensuous tone, “A Negroni Sbagliato with prosecco in it.” This “stunning” drink drove fans wild! The TikTok video went viral on every major media platform. What makes this clip so iconic? The video has gained popularity due to the chemistry between the two actors, it could be felt through the thirty-second clip. The voice recording of the clip has been used on TikTok for people to describe their love languages, types of partners, and go-to outfits.

The Italian cocktail dates to the mid-1800s and is comprised of an exquisite mouth feel with floral, herbaceous and citrus tones. The Negroni has a historic Italian background and is originally made with gin, sweet vermouth and Campari. A Negroni Sbagliato is a classic twist of an elegant favorite. The drink takes on a modern flare: the gin and soda water are replaced with prosecco.

Bartenders have been getting Negroni Sbagliato orders left and right, and they are tired of it. On Oct. 11, 2022, comedian Jenny Yang took to Twitter and said, “everyone please tip your bartenders extra hard this week. They are all facing a tidal wave of “I’d like a stunning negroni Sbagliato w prosecco in it.” The drink that was once unknown has become an overnight sensation.

Non-binary actor D’Arcy has captured the hearts of members of the LGBTQ community. Dana Piccoli, LGBTQIA activist and writer says, “I’ve been at this lesbian bar for 30 mins and nine out of 10 drinks ordered has been a Negroni Sbagliato.” The reason why the drink and the clip are popular is that it resonates with many different communities. Fanfare of the Negroni Sbagliato has come and gone. The craze of the drink can be compared to that of the classic mimosa.

“House of the Dragon” and the HBO network have gained more notoriety and publicity due to a simple Q&A video. It’s amazing how one drink can unite an entire fandom.
