KSLU LISTENS TO…GREAT BLUE

0

If you’ve been missing some serious sonic beats this semester, prepare to witness Great Blue on November 2 at Java. This band, hailing from Wilmington, Connecticut, has just released their newest self-titled album, with the help of the Emmy Award-winning Andy Gundell. The compositions are of extremely high quality, using a wide array of instruments from electric guitars to futuristic synthesizers. Each track is packed full of funky grooves, artfully weaved around energizing beats that are sure to make you dance. Members Peter Anspach, Nick Hanna, and Ethan Michael bring both the skill and the entertainment factor that will electrify the Java stage.

One of the best things about Great Blue’s new album is the cover art. Washed in neon purple and blue, the mountain scene is something all North Country listeners can get behind. Just as funky as the cover is the album’s first single “Lily’s Tiger.” The song is the perfect blend of rock and bright pop, rivaling the work of bands like Foster the People and Chvrches. This refreshing mix is carried throughout the album, manifesting in the riffs that flow so effortlessly in their tracks Tokyo Jazz Fest and Troll. The second track, Seeker, shows off the band’s rock sensibilities, adding a laid back, psychedelic feel to an otherwise pop-infused collection.

Altogether, this album does a great job of invoking a fresh and free vibe. It is clear that the musicians are incredibly talented and passionate about cultivating their own unique sound. On the java stage, there is no doubt this band will blend perfectly with the graphic art and youthful atmosphere. Don’t miss the opportunity to check out one of the most talented up-and-coming bands to hit the Java venue on November 2.
