MLB Offseason Major Moves

0

Frankly, this MLB offseason has been one of the least exciting in recent memory.

The headlining free agents of Bryce Harper, Manny Machado, Dallas Keuchel and Craig Kimbrel, among others, are still unsigned—the caveat, pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training in 13 days.

Obviously, this is more concerning for the pitchers and catchers who are unsigned because history shows that the later free agents sign with a team, the worse they perform in the subsequent season. Plus, the uneventful offseason is leaving baseball fans frustrated.

So far, rumors keep swirling around Harper first signing with the Dodgers, then the Phillies, then the Nationals…kaput. Machado rumors have been lull.

The biggest so far has been an official offer from the White Sox that was reported to be around seven years for close to $200 million—but nothing was confirmed, nor anything followed up. We are all still waiting.

Another notable offseason move was the Yankees once again beefing up their bullpen. After resigning Zach Britton and adding free agent Adam Ottavino, the Yanks are projected to have one of the best bullpens in the history of baseball.

Plus, they added starting pitcher James Paxton and re-signed seasoned veteran J.A. Happ, making their projected starting five: Luis Severino, James Paxton, Masahiro Tanaka, J.A. Happ, C.C. Sabathia and eventually Jordan Montgomery (which I think would move Sabathia to the bullpen).

This staff features four southpaws, which plays perfectly to the dimensions of Yankee Stadium.

So, while the offseason for the most part has been rather boring, some action has occurred. But we shall all still wait for Harper and Machado to make their decisions in the impending weeks.
