- Eliminate all expectations. Let’s be real guys. We live in upstate New York, the north country, the middle of nowhere. This is not gonna be a typical college party setting. This is not gonna be a real night out on the town. But this is probably gonna be whatever you aren’t expecting. So, the best way to have fun is to not even think about it, and then your needs might be met.
- Figure out what the party scene is. This can usually be figured out by knowing what day of the week it is:
- Tuesday? Easy for 21-year-olds hitting up the Hoot for a couple casuals (or not…) at legendary Tuesday Blues. Play some games, watch some sports, and play your favorite tunes at the juke box.
- Thursday? Usually mixers are formed between sports teams, sororities, fraternities, clubs and what not. And if you aren’t a member, that’s okay. Pre-game at Pub 56 with your desired group to get the night going with food and drinks (for 21-year-olds only). If your night must go on, make your way out to the Ticker for the closest thing Canton has to offer to a night-club. But if you don’t make it out there, don’t worry, you’ll have another chance in a few nights.
- Saturday? Pray for the best weather possible because this is darty (day-party) day. The townhouses are where it’s at when it comes to the wildest thing you can think of doing. Beware of all sorts of games such as pong, beer die, and darts (proper shoe wear is encouraged). And after this darty is slowly coming to an end, if your stamina can take it, go back to step a. or b. for the location of your evening plans.
- Pick an outfit. Any outfit. The best thing at SLU is that there is no judgment as to what you wear. Casual, wild, cute, redneck, whatever vibe fits you best will be guaranteed to have an effect on how much fun you have. So be comfortable and be yourself.
- Recommended: Theme parties are the most fun. So, if you can, locate one or start one to have people get in the mood for a good night. White Lies? Red Flags? ABC (Anything But Clothes)? Golf Bros and Tennis…? You get the point.
- Darty Recommended: Jerseys are fun. Regardless of the weather, jerseys are easy to layer over any outfit. They are also fun conversation starters when trying to build new friendly or romantic relationships.
- Be smart. It’s college. We realize that. Whatever you chose to drink or not to drink is definitely your choice. However, remember that what makes the party fun is not what activities you choose or don’t choose to part take in. It’s your friends, the environment, and the atmosphere that make SLU so special. I can guarantee you that the Sunday scaries at Dana brunch just might be your favorite part of the weekend, before you get to do it all over again.
