Halloween is that one time of year when you are a kid that you can be whatever you want, eat as much candy as you want and have fun with your friends. With COVID-19, there are still regulations on campus stating that at the tent party, hosted by a theme house, you have to wear masks. For some people this would ruin their night, as it takes away the fun of Halloween and their costumes.
Mckenzie Haberl’ 23 stated, “I was so excited for the tent party as I remember freshman year it was so fun. When I heard I had to wear a mask, I didn’t want to go as it would ruin all of my Halloween makeup,” showing how the mask regulations during this event prevented some students to even be in attendance. The tent party is an event that students look forward to, yet it’s the second Halloween since COVID-19 and things are still different than before.
Martine Lavelle 23’ attended the tent party and had a great time. Lavelle stated, “people were dancing so hard, your dripping sweat, you’re bumping into everyone, then the DJ Adam was told to stop the music until all masks were up which ruined it,” showing how the people at the tent party had a glimpse of fun yet it was stopped due to the mask regulations.
As many students did not attend the tent party, junior Kate Wilson’ 23 discussed her experience outside of this event. Kate Wilson stated how “anything is better than the Halloween we had last year. Things are moving in the right direction and I can only see things getting better. My Halloween was very fun!”
Despite all these issues, Maggie Donahue’ 23 had a positive outlook on the tent party as she stated, “the tent party was really fun! It was unfortunate that we had to wear masks because it was difficult keeping it on while dancing. Also, it felt strange to keep the mask on when you were with people you had already been around all semester. I am excited for next year when we hopefully don’t have to wear mask.” Even with these circumstances, it was a glimpse of normalcy during the pandemic that is still occurring, which gave some students hope that next year it will be even better.
Even outside of campus, normalcy is returning as Coco Booth stated, “my siblings had fun being able to trick-or-treat for the first time in a year.” Halloween ended up showing that we are moving in a great direction as a society, with the return to normal activities in some form.
