New Music: Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak

0

After last week’s review of Drake’s new single ‘Scary Hours 2’, I promised to let you know about all the other songs released that same night. Since then, I have been playing many of these songs on repeat and think that this might have been the best weekend of music in 2021. Things are starting to look good again finally! Without further ado, let’s jump straight into it.

Even more than Drake’s release, the most exciting of them all was the new Silk Sonic duo of Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak who came together for an incredible flawlessly executed collaboration. Under the name Silk Sonic, they released two new songs—the “Silk Sonic Intro” and “Leave the Door Open.”

Although the intro track is not nearly as well-known and got none of the recognition that “Leave the Door Open” garnered, it is still a fantastic song with a groovy beat that really sets the mood and effectively opens up for “Leave the Door Open.” “Silk Sonic Intro” features Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak preparing for the next song, but they do so in a particular way that mimics the introduction of a live show you might see at a small music venue or even an old speakeasy. It sounds almost like they were just having fun and joking around the microphone and introducing themselves when their producer, D’Mile, probably realized that this impromptu freestyled intro deserved a place on the tracklist.

The last verse of the intro track features 1970’s funk artist Bootsy Collins. He again sets the stage for what feels like a live show and continues introducing the two artists. After inviting the ladies to the stage, Collins closes the track by saying, “make your way to the stage for a band I named Silk Sonic.” It is still unclear how much involvement Collins had with the project; however, he is known as a creative mastermind, so who knows what other tricks Silk Sonic has up their sleeves.

Now to the track that everyone is obsessed with—“Leave the Door Open.” Typically, with a song as popular as this, it gets overplayed, and I find myself bored with it after a week; but nearly two weeks later, I still can’t get enough of this masterfully assembled song. For those that haven’t listen yet—what are you waiting for—it is an incredibly groovy and sensual song in all the best ways possible. Between the unique instrumental beat, Anderson .Paak’s raspy vocals and tremendous drum skills, and Bruno Mars’s ability to hit all notes low and high with ease—“Leave the Door Open” is nothing short of a masterpiece.

That’s it because there are honestly no words to describe how good “Leave the Door Open” is. Rather than try to describe it to you any more than I already have, just go listen to the song itself and let me know what you think! And if there are any songs or albums that you think I should review, just reach out—I’m always looking for more music! Enjoy your week, and you can count on me being back next week with even more musical content!
