Well folks, fall is here and you know what that means. Ski season is fast approaching. Now don’t get me wrong, I do appreciate the beauty of a North Country fall, but I’m ready for some o’dat delicious white powdah. I mean seriously people, who isn’t craving a big fat dump?
I like my dumps big. Size does matter, and when it comes to snow, I like my inches in double digits. As with any coming winter, there is hype surrounding whether or not it will be a good snow season. Boy do I have news for all you readers.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), we are between the threshold of El Niño and La Niña. This means we will have a relatively calm fall. Although some reports are saying that these mild conditions will continue into winter, I don’t buy any of it.
You see people, sometimes you gotta believe. The snow gods are a kind bunch, and I firmly believe that they will bless us with some fat dumps this season. Whether you are a Whiteface man, or a Jay lady, there will be plenty of stoke to go around this season. So sharpen up those shred sticks, or your snowboard, if you’re into that.
Don’t have a ride to the slopes? Never fear, the OC has you covered. They will regularly be running trips to Whiteface and other mountains, and no they don’t bite. So hop in the van, you might get addicted to stoke. Side effects may include a fat hankering for snow and excessive forecast checking. Be on the lookout for Whiteface season pass sales in the next few weeks. Passes are sold in the Student Center by the OC. And you wouldn’t want to miss that, would you?
Us Ice Coast Cowboys have a distinct duty to shred harder than those fancy schmancy west coast skiers. We are a grittier bunch, and quite frankly, a rowdier one too. I call upon all hot lappers, slow rollers, and gondola rippers to get #stoked. Whether you’re a park rat, powder hound, glade gaucho, or just a corduroy carver, there is something for everyone. Winter only lasts so long, and you will miss it when it’s gone. So get out there this winter. Chairlift banter is fully encouraged. I’ll see you out there, shredding Saints!
