It was an eventful weekend at St. Lawrence University in the world of sports during  Family weekend. Each game had a great showing from fans. Students and their families enjoyed a great weekend of sports on campus that included multiple Saints victories.

Football: From the very start of the game, the Saints were dominating the Hartwick football team this past Saturday. The Saints went up 7-0 with a touchdown from Jamie Battaglia ‘22, who ran it in after a 78 yard, 10 play first drive. Defense was on their game shutting down the Hartwick offense all game. Rahmod Johnson ‘21 had a key interception to spark the Saints defense in the first quarter of the game. The Hawk offense could not get it going and the Saints ended up with a dominating victory of 33-0. Students alongside their families were packed around Leckonby Stadium-tailgating and enjoying a great day of football for the Saints.

Volleyball: Volleyball continued their success this weekend with a great win over Vassar. This year’s Saints Volleyball squad is one on a mission and Saturday was no different as they battled Vassar on the team’s Senior Day. All members of the senior class contributed to this victory and have been a crucial part of the team’s success so far this season. On Saturday, the Brewers came out and won the first two sets, putting the Saints in a hole. However, they did not back down from the task at hand, and battled back to two games a piece, eventually edging the Vassar Brewers 15-13 in the fifth and final game. This huge win on Senior Day and Parents Weekend will surely help propel this year’s Volleyball squad to more success in the near future.

Men’s Soccer: The Men’s Soccer Team had a tough game on Saturday playing against RPI. The first half of the game was a tight one. No goals were scored and the Saints looked to be in good position heading into the half, 0-0. However, RPI was able to score a quick one in minute 48 right after halftime and another in minute 51. The Saints and Robert Reynolds ‘22 were able to get one into the net in minute 67, cutting into RPI’s lead. The team battled but was unable to get another, eventually giving up a goal resulting in the 3-1 loss. The Saints Men’s soccer team looks to bounce back on Saturday, October 5 at Ithaca college.

Field Hockey: The Field Hockey team fell to Skidmore College 1-4 in their Liberty League opener. Mckenzie Haberl ‘23 was able to keep her scoring streak alive and tallied her eighth of the season. She is the current leading goal scorer on the team and seems to find the back of the net every game. The Saints brought it back to 1-2 during the game, but in minute 50 and 55 were able to find the back of the net against the Saints. The Field Hockey team will look to bounce back in their next Liberty League contest against University of Rochester on Sunday, October 6 in Canton.

Women’s Tennis: The Saints Women’s Tennis team wrapped up their fall season during Family Weekend, defeating Oneonta 7-2. Lillian Sullivan ‘23, Caitlyn Avery ‘23 and Maddie Nasch ‘20 all won singles and doubles matches to lead the Saints to victory at the Sammis Tennis Courts on Sunday. Sullivan and Avery won the next eight games at No. 1 doubles after losing the first three games of the match to reach an 8-3 win. Sullivan also had a straight set 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles and Avery won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. Nasch and Gabriella Dadoly ‘23 also teamed up for an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles and also won No. 5 singles 601, 6-1. This weekend wrapped up the Women’s Tennis fall schedule and we can’t wait to see what else they bring in the spring.

It was an overall eventful weekend for Saints and the families that were able to come to enjoy it. It is easy to say that everyone thoroughly enjoyed the performances the Saint’s athletes put on.
